At its core, Slow Motion Travel embraces a slower way of traveling. A not-so-distant relative of slow tourism and ecotourism, slow travel serves as an antidote to mass tourism, encouraging travelers to deepen their connection with the people, places, and natural surroundings of their destinations.

Why travel slowly? And what does that mean, exactly?

To travel slowly largely means what it sounds like. It’s a method of travel that encourages one to move with less hustle and more ease. But more than that, it is a mindset and way of being that when practiced, has the ability to nourish our souls and enrich our lives in profound ways, as well as the lives of those around us.

With roots in the Slow Food Movement—founded in 1986 by Italian activist Carlo Petrini—Slow Motion Travel embraces the values set forth in search of a deeper understanding and appreciation for regional traditions & food. Not only that, it seeks to leave a positive footprint on the places we visit; whether that’s through human connection, volunteer efforts, or supporting small businesses and communities.

The photographer & writer behind the lens & screen

Meet Crystal, the passionate traveler and infinitely curious human behind Slow Motion Travel. Over the years, Crystal has developed a love of traveling at a slower pace, more intimately connecting with the places she visits and the people she’s met along the way. The friendships she has cultivated while traveling, especially, have shaped her travels into more meaningful, more fulfilling, and more unique experiences that would be difficult—if not impossible—to replicate had she not done a bit of rooting during her stays. They have served in valuable lessons in presence, and in cultivating a deeper appreciation for the simple things in life.

Here you'll find places, spaces, and stories from around the globe with a lens toward slow travel and living.
